If Everton were to complete a move for Manchester City’s Joe Hart this summer it could be the best signing they will make.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer window, with four new signings arriving at Goodison Park.

There has been a determined effort to improve across the pitch, with a new goalkeeper, centre half, central midfielder and winger all added.

More work is needed if they are to be competitive though. The goalkeeper position is particularly weak, with neither Maarten Stekelenburg nor Joel Robles considered long-term number ones.

And that is the first reason that Hart would represent a very smart signing, he would represent a vast improvement on their current options.

There is no doubting he has had a bad summer with England, but he is still very much a top-level goalkeeper, regardless of what Pep Guardiola may think of his passing ability.

Indeed Hart will be keen to prove his doubters wrong should he be forced to leave the Etihad.

Where better to do that than at Everton who will be hoping to be dark horses of the Premier League this season under Ronald Koeman’s leadership.

The Blues would be getting a top-level goalkeeper who is determined to prove himself and he would be getting a club in desperate need of him to do so; a perfect match.

His experience would a welcome addition to this young Everton squad also. With a raft of Premier League, Champions League and international caps to his name he could be the extra leader this side needs.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Joe Hart does leave Manchester City this summer, but if he does, Everton should be at the front of the queue for his signature.
