Mauricio Pochettino is set to go with Michel Vorm while he waits for his skipper to return from a hamstring injury that will rule him out for four weeks.
Tottenham's Michel Vorm is substituted on for Hugo Lloris as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks on
Tottenham Hotspur fans would certainly have been disappointed with the news on Tuesday that goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris is set for four weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, and many took to Twitter to express their opinions on the blow to the 29-year-old.
The Frenchman is a key figure at White Hart Lane and played a vital part in his side's assault on the Premier League title last season. Lloris missed the first match against Manchester United last season, but then played every league match and all but one of the Europa League matches.
With Michel Vorm set to come in, having featured mainly in the domestic cups last season, there is a big onus for the Dutchman to demonstrate his worth as an international class back up.
If Lloris spends a full four weeks out injured, as the information provided by Tottenham indicated, he will miss the next three league matches and narrowly miss the club's opening Champions League fixture.
He will join another important first teamer on the sidelines domestically, with Mousa Dembele still absent for the next three league games.
Below are some tweets from Spurs fans after hearing the news about their skipper:
Massive blow losing Lloris for a month. Time for Vorm to step up for the next few games. #THFC— Usman T (@101usman) August 16, 2016
Vorm is a more than capable keeper. With our back 4 and midfield setup, we can make it through 4 weeks. No need to panic. #COYS— Arizona Hotspur (@ArizonaHotspur) August 16, 2016
#thfc Lloris injury could just be bad luck but both him & Wimmer have suffered muscle injuries post-Euros (after almost none last season).— Dan Kilpatrick (@Dan_KP) August 16, 2016
Ive seen multiple Spurs sides over the years in which Vorm would be considered an upgrade on the keeper we had at the time. Get a grip— Ergo (@SniersMoregut) August 16, 2016
People reacting like Vorm is the worst keeper on the planet. Big boots to fill but he's an experienced PL keeper who's had a good pre season— Boggo (@Boggo1) August 16, 2016
For those who criticise Michel Vorm, growing up in an era having to witness Walker,Baardsen, Keller, Pletikosa we've had much worse.#THFC— Ricky Sacks (@RickSpur) August 16, 2016
