Fernando Forestieri returned to action last night for Sheffield Wednesday, coming off the bench for the second 45 minutes against Burton Albion.

He could not help the team falling to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to the newly promoted side, but his return was a sign he is being brought back into favour after a tricky week.

Forestieri ruled himself out of the weekend's match with Norwich City amid transfer speculation, before apologising to supporters, and being fined by his club.

His behaviour was slammed by former footballer Alan McInally, an ex-Scottish international, speaking on SkySports Gillette Soccer Special on Tuesday night at 7.30pm.

He said: "He is an absolute joke. Carlos Carvalhal must have said, your having a laugh aren't you?"

McInally's sentiments were backed by Tony Gale, who urged Carvalhal to send Forestieri along the touchline to warm up 'more than 20 times' before bringing him on.

Carvalhal set his stall out by not starting Forestieri, but with one point gained from their last two games, the drama has evidently had a negative impact on the team.
