Aston Villa plan to offer Leicester City's Ritchie De Laet a lucrative wage in a bid to lure him to the Championship, the Sun reports (Wednesday edition, page 51).

De Laet, who fell out of favour with the Premier League champions last term and spent the latter half of the campaign on loan to Middlesbrough, is reportedly wanted by the Villans in a £2.5 million deal (Sun).

And according to the same newspaper, Roberto Di Matteo's side will offer the Belgian defender £30,000 a week to move to Villa Park.

Alan Hutton has begun the season as Villa right-back, but with less than a year to run on the Scotland international's contract it makes sense for the club to consider alternatives.

Arguably, there are few options as appealing as De Laet, who has been promoted from the Championship twice in the past three seasons.

The former Manchester United trainee, a teammate of new Villa recruit James Chester at Old Trafford, also collected a Premier League winners' medal last season and has two caps for Belgium.

Villa are expected to complete the signing of another top flight player, Mile Jedinak, this week (Guardian).
