Arsenal legend Ian Wright has outlined on The Sun Goals Podcast why comparison between Dele Alli and Ross Barkley is unfair.

Alli and Barkley are two of the most talented and exciting young midfielders in England at the moment.

While Alli, who is just 20 years of age, is a key player for Tottenham Hotspur, 22-year-old Barkley is an important figure in the Everton team.

Both the midfielders were part of the England squad that had a disappointing 2016 European Championship campaign in France in the summer.

The duo faced each other in the Premier League at the weekend when Everton took on Tottenham at Goodison Park.

Comparisons have been made between Alli and Barkley, which former Arsenal and England international striker Wright believes are unfair on the Spurs youngster.

“People comparing Dele and Ross Barkley, I think it’s unfair on Dele, to be honest, because Ross has been around longer,” said Wright on The Sun Goals Podcast.

Alli had his first taste of Premier League football only last season, while Barkley has made over 100 appearances in the English top flight for the Toffees.

The Tottenham youngster enjoyed a very successful season in 2015-16, and the former Milton Keynes Dons midfielder will be aiming to enjoy a similar 2016-17 campaign.
