Arsenal legend Ian Wright suggested on The Sun Goals Podcast that Christian Benteke would not be a good signing for Crystal Palace.

According to BBC Sport, London club Palace are interested in signing Benteke from Premier League rivals Liverpool before the end of the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the Reds have rejected an offer worth £30 million from the Eagles for the 25-year-old striker.

According to BBC Sport, the bid was of £23m plus £7m in add-ons, with Palace reportedly having had a previous offer of £25m for the Belgium international turned down by the Reds.

Former Arsenal striker Wright has suggested that Benteke is the not answer to Palace’s goalscoring problems.

“No, I am not sure because Benteke going to Liverpool, people are talking about not the right team for him, but he still should have scored the kind of goals and made the kind of movements and doing the kind of things that a centre-forward does that makes you think, ‘Yeah, I could see where Benteke can fit into at some stage’, but going to Palace for £30-odd million again, he has to score,” said Wright on The Sun Goals Podcast when asked if Benteke is the answer to his former club Palace’s goalscoring problems.

Benteke joined Liverpool from Villa in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports at the time to be worth £32.5m.

The former Genk striker arrived at Anfield with a strong reputation, but he failed to make a massive impact at the Reds last season.

The 25-year-old scored nine goals and created 30 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for Liverpool during the 2015-16 campaign.

In seven Europa League matches for the Merseyside outfit last season, Benteke scored one goal and created five chances.
