The goalkeeper looks destined to leave Manchester City this summer.
The England number one looks set to leave the Etihad this summer as he has failed to impress new manager Pep Guardiola.
The interest from Liverpool does not come as a surprise given that the goalkeeper position has been one that has been a problem for them for several years.
Liverpool's Simon Mignolet
Indeed, Jurgen Klopp already brought in Loris Karius this summer to provide sufficient competition to current number one Simon Mignolet.
So would Hart represent a significant improvement for the Reds? We looked at his stats compared to Simon Mignolet last season to find out.
As it transpires, the two players were level across the eight areas that we covered. On a per game basis Mignolet made more saves and saved more shots from outside the box than Hart managed.
He also enjoyed a better passing accuracy than the England number one, and was a more accurate sweeper keeper also.
Manchester City's Joe Hart looks dejected
It wasn’t all bad news for Hart though as he came out on top in terms of high claims and punches on a per game basis.
He also made more saves in the box and crucially, conceded fewer goals across the entirety of the campaign.
In each regard the two players were very close though, and on this evidence Liverpool should perhaps turn their attention elsewhere as they look for an improvement.
