New Middlesbrough signing Fabio Da Silva has told the club's official website that he has joined a side that is more than capable of staying in the Premier League.

The Brazilian completed a move to the Riverside earlier this week, with the prospect of a return to the Premier League with Aitor Karanka's men proving too good to turn down.

A firm favourite with fans at previous club Cardiff City, Fabio will be remembered by many Boro fans for his stunning half-volley for the Bluebirds during their visit to Teesside last season.

And having already experienced the Premier League with Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers, he already knows what it takes to succeed in England's top flight, adding that he cannot wait to get started.

He told the club's official website: “I have to help and I will do my maximum. I am energetic and I don’t stop running - I will do everything I can.”

The 26-year-old has been impressed by what he's seen from the club so far and believes Boro have the personnel needed to avoid an instant return to the Championship.

“I think [Boro] had a strong team last season already, and have bought some good players," he added.

“My ambition is to play well help the team. We are strong enough to stay in the Premier League.

“I am excited and I am happy now I have signed.”

Having missed out on Boro's 1-1 draw with Stoke City on the opening day, Fabio's start to life in at his new club could kick off with the small matter of a Wear-Tees derby with Sunderland this weekend.
