There has been a varied reaction to rumours circulating that link Jose Fonte with a move to Arsenal or Manchester United...
Both Arsenal and Manchester United are competing to sign Euro 2016 winning centre-back Jose Fonte, ESPN report.
And Southampton fans can't seem to decide whether they'd like to see captain stay at St. Mary's, or if the lack of commitment shown to the club by Fonte in failing to squash rumours linking him with a move away is a sign that they should let the player leave and look to find a replacement.
Fonte has been a key part of the Southampton defence since 2010, having amassed almost 250 appearances for the Saints.
However, the Portuguese international is now 32 years of age, and many supporters think that it would be unwise to offer him a new deal given that it would end when the player had passed his prime.
Having created a strong partnership with fellow centre-back Virgil Van Dijk, selling Fonte could be a risky tactic for Southampton with time running out in this summer transfer window.
Here are some thoughts from Saints fans on Twitter.
Sell Fonte and I'm not going to St Marys again until the club shows ambition #saintsfc— Ed Baker (@EdBakerYes) August 16, 2016
I'd give Fonte 100k a week if it meant he'd stay. hes the glue to our team #SaintsFC— Saint Rhys (@RhysTheSaint) August 16, 2016
