It was reported that the former Northern Ireland Under-21 international was at Bramall Lane to watch Saturday’s League One match between United and Rochdale.

Lavery has been on the books of Wednesday since 2012, but he is not guaranteed a place in the Owls’ starting lineup.

During his time at the Hillsborough Stadium, the 23-year-old forward has had loan spells at Southend United, Plymouth Argyle, Chesterfield and Portsmouth.

Wednesday, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season, are aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship during the 2016-17 campaign.
