Southampton's Shane Long in action with Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott
According to The Scottish Sun, Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott has become a top target for Rangers as Mark Warburton looks to strengthen his defence.
The Gers did land Clint Hill on a free transfer earlier this summer, but another central defender is needed as competition for Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson in the heart of defence.

Whilst ex-Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos is on trial with the club, Warburton appears to be looking elsewhere too - and it's now claimed that a former England international could be heading to Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun report that Rangers are working on a deal to sign Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott, who has been told he can leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

Lescott, who turns 34 today, only joined Villa from local rivals West Brom last summer, but endured a difficult season as Villa suffered relegation to the Championship.
Villa fans turned on Lescott towards the end of the campaign, and he's now been deemed surplus to requirements by new Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo, with Lescott - who made 30 Premier League appearances last season - allegedly in talks over a severance package to leave Villa.

It's believed that Rangers are now serious contenders to sign Lescott, with Mark Warburton's men allegedly working on a deal to lure the veteran to Ibrox before this month's transfer deadline.
Lescott's best days are clearly behind him, but he has the experience that Warburton is looking for - and on a free transfer, Rangers could do a lot worse than save Lescott from this Aston Villa nightmare.
