The pressure had already been on the Frenchman after his failure to spend this summer and this result did not help his cause.
Serious questions are being asked once again, and Carragher says he can understand why the Gunners faithful is so upset about the situation.
"I'm not an Arsenal fan but I can totally understand Arsenal fans being very, very angry," he told Sky Sports.
"At the start of every season every club should go in with optimism, but Arsenal year in year out go in deflated. Everyone is flat. Something is not right within that stadium, there is a massive split at Arsenal."

It now remains to be seen if Wenger will try to win back the faith of the fans with several big name signings before the end of the transfer window.
The Gunners supporters are keen to see signings arrive and improve their squad, especially as all of their rivals have spent well in this summer transfer window.
To get the players they need, Wenger will have to spend big though, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to do so as a way of turning the tide back in his favour.
