For the second time this summer Sheffield Wednesday have signed a Premier League midfielder against the wishes of his former club's fans.

Burnley's David Jones - a regular two Clarets promotion seasons - signed a three-year deal at Hillsborough on Tuesday, after former Watford man Almen Abdi did likewise at the end of July.

A household name at Championship level, from which he has been promoted four times in total - one shy of Kevin Phillips' record - Jones and Wednesday have crossed paths on many an occasion. In fact, only Queens Park Rangers (11) have faced the 31-year-old on more occasions than the Owls (10).

Most Wednesdayites will recall the free-kick he scored against their side in last season's 3-1 defeat at Turf Moor, while those of a certain era may remember him doing likewise for Derby County to decide a 2007 encounter at Pride Park - in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Can the Owls expect such moments of magic on a regular basis? His record of a goal every 12-or-so games overall suggests not.
