Bookmakers SkyBet have made Everton the new favourites to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke at evens, ahead of Crystal Palace at 7/4.

The Benteke transfer saga has rumbled on all summer, with the Reds valuing the Belgian at an extortionate £32.5 million.

The former Aston Villa striker is almost certain to leave Anfield this summer, and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp admitted last week that he expects Benteke to leave the club (Sky Sports).

SkyBet have West Ham United listed as third favourites in the race to sign the Liverpool striker at 5/1.

The 25-year-old Belgian put in a  succession of powerful, dominating displays during his time at Villa Park which convinced the Liverpool hierarchy to part with £32.5 million to secure his services last summer.

Benteke failed to live up to his hype, however, and endured a very poor debut season overall, managing only 10 goals in 36 outings.

Everton are in the market for a striker with Romelu Lukaku's future at the club far from certain, as Chelsea's interest refuses to go away.

If the Belgian were to eventually leave Goodison, Benteke would seem to be a ready-made replacement.

His quality is not in question, and he is the kind of player who thrives off of confidence, so maybe a move to a different club will give him a fresh start where he can rebuild his career and his reputation.

If he performs to the levels he reached at Villa, he could turn out to be a great signing for whoever manages to win the race for his signature.
