Zero tackles and four fouls: Arsenal star signing Granit Xhaka has a debut to forget

Granit Xhaka came on as a substitute as Arsenal lost 4-3 to Liverpool in their Premier League opener at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Not only did Arsenal lose 4-3 at home to Premier League rivals Liverpool on the opening day, but their £35m star signing Granit Xhaka looked well off the pace on his debut.

The Switzerland international committed more fouls (4) than any other player in the Premier League this weekend despite only playing the final 23 minutes of the Gunners' opening day defeat.

And that unwanted stat is made worse by the fact that Xhaka, who has a reputation for his tough tackling approach, didn't successfully complete a tackle during his brief stint on the field and picked up a booking in the process.

Arsenal did take a first-half lead through Theo Walcott who atoned for his earlier penalty miss before Philippe Coutinho levelled things up with a stunning 30-yard free-kick just before half-time.

The second half saw the visitors run away with the game as Adam Lallana, Coutinho put Liverpool 3-1 ahead before the hour mark.

Then another debutant in Sadio Mane produced a excellent solo effort to make it 4-1 before Xhaka was even introduced.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers pulled two back for the Gunners but Xhaka's introduction off the bench ultimately slowed the game down as his persistent fouling frustrated the home support as Liverpool hung on for the three points.

Xhaka signed from Borussia Monchengladbach earlier in the summer and the 23-year-old's final season at the German outfit saw him pick up three red cards prior to his North London move.

Without offering much in the way of goals or assists, Xhaka will have to get to grips with Premier League life quickly in order to justify his hefty price tag.

But at the moment it seems as though some Arsenal fans were not too pleased with their new signing so far either:
