Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho scores their first goal with a free kick
Liverpool opened the new Premier League season with a superb 4-3 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In an enthralling encounter, Arsenal took the lead as Theo Walcott drove the ball into the corner of the net just over a minute after having a penalty saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
The Gunners were in control, but a stunning long-range free-kick from Philippe Coutinho on the stroke of half time drew Liverpool level – and Jurgen Klopp's men took over in the second half.
Adam Lallana put Liverpool in front with a smart finish from Georginio Wijnaldum's cross, Coutinho added a second by shinning home Nathaniel Clyne's ball into the box, and Sadio Mane then got a debut goal with a fine individual run and finish to make it 4-1.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers grabbed goals to bring Arsenal back into the game, but Liverpool managed to hang on for a remarkable 4-3 victory in North London.
