West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told the club’s official website that he is not concerned Dimitri Payet will be a marked man this season.

The Frenchman was one of the stars of last season with a series of impressive performances in his first year in the Premier League.

His star rose during the summer, as he became one of France’s key men at Euro 2016, helping to guide them to the final of the tournament.

He must now look to take that into his second season in the Premier League and look to help the Hammers build on an impressive year under Bilic.

Of course, now that everyone is aware of what he can do, there is a danger that he will become a marked man, but Bilic insists he is not concerned.

“I don’t believe he will be a marked man this season,” he told the club’s official website.

“People are trying to mark great players all their careers because they are great players and can get out of that situation. Physcologically it is a big season for him.”

It now remains to be seen if Payer can reach the level of performance that he managed last season.

It would not be surprising to see him struggle, with the 'Second Season Syndrome' having affected a number of players down the years.

Payet has shown that he can handle the pressure on his shoulders though, and West Ham will be hoping there is even more to come from him.
