Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has suggested to The Shields Gazette that he is still looking for players to sign in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far, having signed as many as eight senior players.

The likes of Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden, Grant Hanley and Mohamed Diame have all been recruited by Newcastle this summer.

Benitez has suggested that he could still make more signings before the end of the summer transfer window.

“We have to keep looking for players that can help the team to grow and make us better for the rest of the season,” Benitez told The Shields Gazette when asked about the need for more signings.

Despite the signings, Newcastle have made a disappointing start to the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

The Magpies kicked off their season with a 1-0 defeat to Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London.

Newcastle suffered a 2-1 loss against Huddersfield Town at St. James’ Park in the league on Saturday afternoon.

Benitez’s side will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on Reading at home in the Championship.

Newcastle will head into the match as favourites, but they cannot be complacent.

Reading will head into the game at St. James’ Park on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home at Molineux.
