Preston North End boss Simon Grayson has told the Lancashire Evening Post that the club have received an approach from Rangers for striker Joe Garner.

The Lilywhites lost 2-1 at home to Fulham on Saturday afternoon, and Grayson decided to give striker Garner 90 minutes despite rampant speculation over his future at Deepdale.

Garner, 28, is a reported target for Rangers as The Scottish Sun claimed on Saturday morning that the Gers are closing in on a deal for the former Nottingham Forest man.

Garner was left frustrated against Fulham as he failed to find the net, and he only scored six times last season in an underwhelming campaign, but he's become a club hero during his time with North End.

A boyhood Preston fan, Garner finally found himself playing for the Lilywhites in 2013 having signed from Watford, and he went on to hit 51 goals during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.

Garner's hard work, never-say-die attitude and evident love for the club has made him a fan favourite, but he may now be parting ways as Rangers attempt to lure him to Ibrox this summer.

Fans were left surprised as Garner took to the field against Fulham, and were left discussing the rumours at the stadium, before Grayson clarified matters after the final whistle.

Grayson told the Lancashire Evening Post that Rangers are 'sniffing around' Garner, and North End have indeed received an enquiry from Mark Warburton's men for the player.

Grayson did then add that discussions will be held in the next 48 hours over the next step, but stated that Preston - a team with one of the lowest budgets in the Championships - aren't looking to sell Garner, and will only think about considerable offers.

"Rangers are sniffing around, they are wanting to try and take Joe Garner," said Grayson. "We have had an enquiry but we are not looking to sell Joe. If anyone comes in with an offer we will contemplate it and do the right thing for this football club. But as a football club we don’t want to sell anyone. Every player has got a price I suppose – they do at every club in the world – and we have to do what is right as a club. We are not actively looking to sell Joe."

"Even though he has not scored today or much last season, he is an integral part of this club. There has been an enquiry from Rangers which we will talk about over the next 24-48 hours. They have talked a few figures here and there but that sort of information we will keep in-house. It is flattering that a club like Rangers are looking at our players but we don’t need to sell. I have spoken to Joe about this over the last few days and I spoke to him this morning. He just wants to get on and play his football. What happens after that will happen," he added.
