The midfielder is expected to leave St James Park this summer.

According to the Chronicle, Saint Etienne are willing to take Newcastle United flop Henri Saivet on loan this summer.

The midfielder only arrived at the club in the January transfer window as they paid Bordeaux £4.5 million for his services.

It proved to be a disappointing move for him though as he made just four appearances before the end of the season and joined the growing list of French players to struggle in the North East.

He has not done enough to prove to Rafa Benitez that he deserves a place in his squad, with the Chronicle reporting last month that the Spaniard was happy to let him leave this summer.

And a return to France could now be on the cards as the same newspaper reports that Saint Etienne are willing to take him on loan.

According to the Chronicle, they are keen on him but are only willing to pay a portion of his £35,000-per-wages in any move.

It remains to be seen if that is a deal that the Magpies are willing to accept, with them surely hoping for a permanent sale as Benitez continues to mould his squad.
