Eddie Gray has told LUTV that Jordan Botaka's loan away from Leeds United makes sense.

The 23-year-old attacker was sent on loan to Charlton Athletic this week after Garry Monk made it clear that he is not in his plans for this season.

The Democratic Republic of Congo forward has only managed 10 Championship appearances for Leeds since joining last September, signed by Uwe Rosler but struggled for minutes under Steve Evans and now Monk.

And Gray feels that it makes perfect sense for the Whites and Botaka himself to spend time away from the Yorkshire club.

"For the boy himself, I think it makes sense for him to move on and get games," he told LUTV. "It's not really worked for the boy at Elland Road. He's got to play."

Botaka is the third player to leave Leeds on loan this summer, following Giuseppe Bellusci and Lee Erwin out of the door.

On the whole, Leeds have done well not to lose many of their major players this summer.

Of course, Lewis Cook joined Bournemouth for £10 million, but he is the only player who United supporters might be sad to see leave as the rest were not hugely popular among the fanbase.
