Tottenham Hotspur fans were left frustrated yesterday as on the eve of the Premier League season a story over wages looked to divide the camp.

It was reported by The Telegraph that the agent of Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen had demanded his client earn £150k-a-week at the club – making him easily the club’s highest earning player.

The wage packet would see him on nearly double the wages of Spurs’ current high-earner Hugo Lloris.

It comes amid interest in his services from Italian clubs Juventus and Inter Milan.

Eriksen is of course a crucial member of the Spurs first-team but the club’s chairman Daniel Levy has a strict wage structure at White Hart Lane and handing Eriksen such a deal would smash it.

Of course it is possible his agent is simply trying to put a rocket on the protracted negotiations and ensure that he gets the best possible deal for his client. Surely he cannot genuinely expect Levy to pay him £150k-a-week given the chairman’s thrifty reputation.

Tottenham fans have reacted in a mixed fashion on Twitter. Some are not pleased at Eriksen’s agent; others believe Levy needs to loosen the purse strings if Spurs are going to be contenders.

But the overwhelming message, is keep Eriksen…
