The Dane's agent has reportedly asked for £150k-a-week.
Tottenham's Christian Eriksen before the match
Tottenham Hotspur fans were left frustrated yesterday as on the eve of the Premier League season a story over wages looked to divide the camp.
Tottenham's Christian Eriksen applauds fans after the game
The wage packet would see him on nearly double the wages of Spurs’ current high-earner Hugo Lloris.
It comes amid interest in his services from Italian clubs Juventus and Inter Milan.
Eriksen is of course a crucial member of the Spurs first-team but the club’s chairman Daniel Levy has a strict wage structure at White Hart Lane and handing Eriksen such a deal would smash it.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy
Of course it is possible his agent is simply trying to put a rocket on the protracted negotiations and ensure that he gets the best possible deal for his client. Surely he cannot genuinely expect Levy to pay him £150k-a-week given the chairman’s thrifty reputation.
Tottenham fans have reacted in a mixed fashion on Twitter. Some are not pleased at Eriksen’s agent; others believe Levy needs to loosen the purse strings if Spurs are going to be contenders.
But the overwhelming message, is keep Eriksen…

@jair1970 With the leaked demand at only £150k/week surely Spurs have to blink with Eriksen. Nice bit of anchoring by his agent at least.— P. Guay (@p_guay) August 13, 2016
This whole Eriksen things been coming for ages remember his agent saying he wanted out early in summer, cash in Juve wanted him— Mike (@Motta_B) August 12, 2016
If Eriksen's agent is genuinely asking for £150k per week, then he clearly hasn't assessed who he is negotiating with.— JD (@JustinVersion1) August 12, 2016
Eriksen's agent must be stupid,he must know that if we pay him £150k then Hugo, Kane & Dembele will want that too so Levy will laugh at him!— Dave W (@spudly77) August 12, 2016
Eriksen agent asked for 150k a week from Daniel Levy, he might as well have not rang at all.— Harry Charalambous (@HazSpur92) August 12, 2016
It’s not credible that Eriksen wants 150K a week, he knows he’ll never get that. #THFC— Stuart Peel (@JedLomax) August 13, 2016
If Eriksen leaves... We have no choice imo but to get a great center attacking mid of quality sooner rather than later #THFC— Steezy Coys (@SonOfKane10) August 13, 2016
Step 1: Eriksen isn't in the starting 11 tomorrow.— Corbit (@Corbit_THFC) August 12, 2016
I can't see Levy destroying the wage structure for anyone, even Eriksen. Think we'll settle at around 80-85k p/w + some good bonuses— SHДRKY (@Belgian_Hotspur) August 13, 2016
Eriksen contract? Who blinks really. Levy won't want him down to a year left (or Lamela), so I say it gets done somehow...— James Yorke (@jair1970) August 13, 2016
