Mauricio Pochettino unsurprisingly indicated Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama are integral to his plans, but what about the Algerian?

Tottenham Hotspur have announced their shirt numbers for the new season on the club website, on the eve of the club's opening Premier League match with Everton.

New signings Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama have both been given their favoured numbers, with the Dutchman wearing the vacant number nine shirt last worn by Roberto Soldado and the former Southampton midfielder taking the number 12 - a shirt he has favoured throughout his career at both club and international level. It sees DeAndre Yedlin drop down to the number 32 shirt.

Things are somewhat more interesting when it comes to Nabil Bentaleb, whose future at the club looked especially bleak earlier in the summer when Mauricio Pochettino revealed he had been told he was not in the Argentine's plans for this season.

The Algerian international has been given a squad number, unlike last summer when Emmanuel Adebayor was dropped from the squad list entirely after being told he was unwanted, but it is a big change for the 21-year-old from his number six shirt all the way back to the number 42 - the number he wore when he made his debut for Tim Sherwood's Spurs side in 2013.

It sets Bentaleb firmly away from the first team and in with the club's talented group of academy players looking to break into the senior squad - not ideal for the midfielder but suggesting that he isn't completely struck from Pochettino's thoughts.
