The imposing figure could apparently be on his way for a fee in the region of €3 million (£2.6 million). The 27-year-old, who has 30 caps and is the international captain for the Congolese national team, can also play at the back and would be a shrewd recruit from Wolves.

The Championship side have plenty of capital at the moment, thanks to the takeover of the club by Chinese investors Fosun Group.

The Midlands club are believed to be on the verge of spending big for Benfica’s Anderson Talisca and made a £6 million bid for Derby County striker Chris Martin yesterday, which was swiftly rejected by their Championship rivals.

Oniangue would be a solid signing and it seems like one that might actually come off.

Wolves also replaced their manager this summer, with Walter Zenga taking over from Kenny Jackett, as they look to push toward a potential promotion to the Premier League.
