According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United have not made an approach for Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne.

The Magpies have been extremely busy this summer, with Rafael Benitez bringing no fewer than eight new players to St James’ Park.

His transfer business is far from over though, with a striker and a winger still thought to be on his wish list.

That had led to reports that they were targeting his former Napoli star Insigne, with Il Matino reporting they had already made a move.

According to their report, they were offering him wages of £85,000-per-week to tempt him into a move to the North East.

However, it appears that the report was wide of the mark, as the Chronicle claims that the Magpies have not made an approach for his services.

That news will likely come as no surprise to Newcastle fans, with the move having appeared unlikely to say the least.

While the reported wages and a reunion with Benitez would have been tempting to him, playing in the Championship this season is likely to have been a major negative.
