Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has told Sky Sports that his pursuit of West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has not progressed over the last few weeks, and he has hinted at potentially moving to other targets.

The Potters' pursuit of Berahino has been no secret, with it widely reported that the West Midlands club have made a bid thought to be in the region of £20 million for the striker, as per Sky Sports.

Those reports emerged midway through last month however, and since then there has been little sign of progress, with the Baggies thought to be reluctant to sell one of their most prized assets.

West Brom's protective stance over Berahino has been a source of conflict within the club in the past, with Berahino infamously falling out with club chairman Jeremy Peace after the Baggies refused to sell the player to Tottenham last year.

And with Tony Pulis' side playing hardball once again, Mark Hughes has said he will switch to other targets if progress continues to stutter.

"It is no secret that we have made bids and have an interest in Berahino but it is not in our hands," Hughes told Sky Sports. "He is obviously a player of another club and if they don't want to sell, or have no intention of selling, then there is nothing we can do to affect that.

"We just have to be patient and if the situation changes then we will be ready to sit down and talk, I'm sure, but in the last few weeks that doesn't seem to have moved on to any great extent.

"He is an outstanding young talent but you need a lot of boxes ticked and all the ducks in a row before any deal happens. At the moment that is not where we are. If it happens we will be delighted. If it doesn't we will move on to (other) targets that we have."
