Less than a year after signing for Leeds United, Jordan Botaka has been loaned out to Charlton Athletic, with the Addicks confirming his arrival on a season long agreement via their official website.

The DR Congo international moved to Leeds from Excelsior on deadline day in September, but struggled to make an impact for the Whites.

He started only three league games, and during numerous fleeting substitute appearances did not have a standout moment which helped turn a game in the club's favour.

Leeds signed Hadi Sacko on loan from Sporting Lisbon this summer and while he neither is the finished product, the Frenchman was above Botaka in the pecking order under new boss Garry Monk.

Despite this Leeds are not blessed with wide options, while Kemar Roofe can play there, they have just Stuart Dallas as a further player out wide in addition to Sacko.

Botaka is just 23 and has the potential to be a real asset to Leeds, but in order to aid his development he needs to play regular football, and the Charlton loan is necessary to help him.

The Addicks were relegated from the Championship last season but have recruited well this summer, making it clear they are determined to get out of League One.
