The Bluebirds are out of the EFL cup after losing 1-0 to Bristol Rovers last night.
Cardiff City are out of the EFL Cup after a 1-0 defeat to League One side Bristol Rovers. A stunning extra time strike from Chris Lines sent Rovers into the second round.
The bluebirds dominated possession but struggled to put any chance away, Paul Trollope's men failed to register a shot on target until the 104th minute.
The game looked certain to be going to penalties after a goalless 90 minutes. A strike from Lines 25-yards out in extra time went straight past Cardiff's goalkeeper Simon Moore.
Rovers will face Chelsea in the second round of the cup, in what will be a tough game for the League One side.
Bluebirds manager Paul Trollope would have been disappointed not to see the Welsh side progress further in the competition. Cardiff’s lack of quality is something the manager will need to address in order for the club to move forward and target promotion in the Championship.
The Bluebirds will be hoping to put this defeat behind them when they host QPR in their first home game of the season on Sunday.
Cardiff fans took to Twitter to express their feelings after being knocked out of the cup.
Horrible game, phenomenal winning goal. Lot of work to be done at Cardiff City before the close of the window.— Michael Pearlman (@MPearlo) 11 August 2016
