Ian Holloway predicts Newcastle v Huddersfield

Ian Holloway tips Newcastle United to kick-start their Championship season by beating Huddersfield on Saturday.

Ian Holloway has told Sky Sports that Newcastle United fans will inspire the Magpies to victory over Huddersfield Town at St James's Park on Saturday.

Rafael Benitez's side go into the contest aiming to bounce back from their opening-day 1-0 Championship defeat at Fulham last Friday.

That match raised the curtain on the new season and perhaps lowered Newcastle's expectations regarding their return to the Premier League. The pre-season favourites for promotion will certainly have to work hard to return to England's top flight.

Still, there will be an electric atmosphere on Tyneside come Saturday as supporters group Gallowgate Flags called on the fans to take their places inside the stadium half-an-hour before kickoff to build the energy levels from the terraces.

And Holloway believes the Newcastle faithful inside the "immense" St James's Park will be the difference for Benitez's boys against Huddersfield.

"I tipped Huddersfield to go down at the start of the season and I could end up with egg all over my face. They played really well last week against Brentford," he told Sky Sports.

"But I think the support at St James' Park will carry Newcastle to the victory. It's an immense ground, and while opponents can raise their game when they visit, it might just be too much for Huddersfield.

"I do apologise to their fans, though, because I only see them getting better, and that pre-season prediction could be the biggest mistake I make all season!"

Newcastle had no League Cup game during the week, which gives them eight full days to replenish after the setback at West London.
