Manchester City host Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend.

Former player and current pundit Stan Collymore has predicted on Twitter that Manchester City will fire a big warning shot to the rest of the Premier League by defeating Sunderland 3-0 this weekend.

City disappointed last season, culminating in the departure of boss Manuel Pellegrini and the arrival of former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man Pep Guardiola as his successor.

Expectations are high at the Etihad Stadium with signings such as Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane and John Stones arriving at the club, and many feel that the title is theirs to lose.

Sunderland, on the other hand, have experienced an eventful pre-season with Sam Allardyce leaving to take the England managerial job and David Moyes taking over at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have a decent squad and should be fine this season, but Collymore feels that they will suffer an opening day defeat as he backs City to send a warning shot and win 3-0 in-front of their own fans.

“I just think City over 38 games may well win the title. David Moyes, the arch pragmotist, will pick up where big Sam left off but I think Manchester City will want to fire a big warning salvo across the bout of the Premier League and win by three goals to nil,” Collymore told Boyle Sports via Twitter.

City will look to dominate possession against Sunderland and put them on the back foot from the opening whistle, while Moyes will be happy to see his side surrender the ball and focus on quick counters.

Guardiola is new to Premier League football and most will be excited at the prospect of his City side providing entertaining football, although it may take some time to see his ideas really come in to effect.
