Steve McClaren looks dejected
Steve McClaren has been discussing the potential for his former club Derby County to get promoted this season.
McClaren, who was sacked as Newcastle United boss toward the end of last season, nearly guided the club to the play-offs during his time at the iPro Stadium.
The former Rams coach was speaking on Sky Sports News HQ (11/08/2016) today about the club.

He believes that the club still have a fantastic squad and that new manager Nigel Pearson can finally win the perennial challengers promotion to the Premier League:
“I think it’s a fantastic squad. It’s developed from when I was there.
“Nigel is the perfect manager to go in there because he did it with Leicester.

“I think Derby will do that (get over the line). Don’t tinker too much, keep the squad, keep them together and with that youth that now has more experience eventually they will get over the line.”
Derby have come desperately close to promotion in the past three seasons, including when McClaren’s side dramatically dropped out of the play-off positions in the 2014-15 campaign.
Pearson has been quiet in the transfer market so far as he prefers to back the quality the club already has amongst their squad.
They started their Championship campaign with a 0-0 draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Brighton and will be hoping to get their season up and running with a result against Barnsley in the Championship this Saturday.
