Moussa Sissoko has spoke about his desire to leave Newcastle yet again, and has cited Real Madrid as a possible destination.

The Frenchman has made it no secret that he sees his future away from St James' Park, and has insisted that fans "need to understand" his situation.

In an interview with BBC World Service, Sissoko said: "I hope Real come for me, I'm still waiting.

"I spent three and a half years here. I gave everything for this club and I want to play some big games. For that I need to go somewhere else."

Sissoko was a star of Euro 2016, helping France reach the final only to be beaten by Portugal in extra time.

Despite an impressive tournament, no one has yet jumped to sign the powerful midfielder yet, probably in no small part to the fact that he has been valued by Newcastle at £35 million.

The 26-year-old has returned to training on Tyneside, and could feasibly play a role in their first home game of the season against Huddersfield.

Benitez would like to keep a player of Sissoko's ability on Tyneside, and started to get the best out of him at the back-end of last season after giving his number seven the captain's armband and playing him in a central role.

Regardless of the Spaniard's desires, Sissoko sees his future away from Newcastle, and wants to be playing in the Champions League rather than the Championship.

After issuing a 'come and get me' plea to footballing giants Real Madrid, Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to express their anger, disbelief and amusement.
