One game a week for most of the season could work well for Liverpool.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is determined that the club use the 'only positive' of not playing European football in the season ahead.
As a result of their lack of continental action, the team has plenty of time to work on the training ground when compared with their rivals towards the top of the Premier League.
What also followed the disappointment of losing the Europa League final was several changes to the personnel within the squad as seven new faces have arrived, with several players who had struggled to force their way into the starting line-up having been moved on.
Liverpool v Sevilla - UEFA Europa League Final
Klopp told the official Liverpool magazine, as reported by the club's website: "When we lost the Europa League final, there was absolutely nothing worthwhile about it, just a load of disappointment. In the end the only positive thing about not playing European football this year is that we have more time to train and that is what we have to use, 100 per cent.
“That’s why we need to create a very strong team in the best understanding of the word ‘team’. We need to have competition.

“We need a situation where the players push themselves and each one pushes the other for each position and wants to be in the team because you have time to recover."
There is certainly plenty of competition for places in the Liverpool side this season when all of the players are available, especially with fewer games on the horizon.
Additions have been made in terms of goalkeepers, central defenders and central midfielders - and Klopp has looked to add more goals and pace to the side, as well as solidity.

Last season didn't allow for much work on the training ground for Klopp given Liverpool's busy fixture schedule. Now he will be hoping to work on things and make his side a more effective unit and see some tangible improvement over the course of the season as a result.
It will be interesting to see if there is a difference this season for the Reds compared to last season that could be put down to having more time on the training ground.
