Pundit criticises returning Aston Villa defender.
Aston Villa's Jordan Amavi in action
Aston Villa suffered a very disappointing loss to Luton Town, exiting the League Cup in the first round.
The Villans lost 3-1 against the League Two side, and will be wondering just how much worse their run of form will get before they start moving forward.
Among the starters was returning defender Jordan Amavi, who suffered a serious knee injury last October and missed the remainder of the 2015/16 season.
Aston Villa's Jordan Amavi
The Frenchman started the game at Kenilworth Road, and was blamed by SkySports pundit Iain Dowie, who had harsh words for him after Luton's opener.
He told SkySports News HQ's Soccer Special: "Amavi goes to sleep, he gets it wrong, he's ball watching.
"He is good going forward but not defensively. It's his all day long if he stays with his runner."
Luton Town's Cameron McGeehan and Glen Rea celebrate their third goal, an own goal by Aston Villa’s Jores Okore
The goal was scored by Jake Gray and brought the score level at 1-1. The second half got worse for Villa, with Cameron McGeehan netting from close range, before the hapless Jores Okore scored an own goal to complete their misery.
It is difficult really to justify being too harsh on Amavi, who is feeling his way back to match sharpness, but that won't be a viable excuse forever and he will want to show improvement against higher quality opposition in the games to come.
