Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told The Scottish Sun that he's crossing his fingers that a new signing arrives before the weekend.

The Gers enjoyed a superb win on Tuesday night, as they hammered Peterhead 5-0 in the Scottish League Cup, meaning they have won five out of five in that competition, and have yet to even concede a goal.

The win was a welcome boost given that Rangers were left somewhat frustrated on Saturday afternoon when they drew 1-1 with Hamilton Academical on the opening day of the new league season.

This weekend, Rangers travel to take on Dundee away from home, and manager Warburton appears to be hopeful of bringing in some more new signings.

Warburton has already swooped to land the likes of Matt Gilks, Lee Hodson, Clint Hill, Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks, Niko Kranjcar, Josh Windass and Joe Dodoo this summer, but at least two new players are needed before the transfer deadline later this month.

Another centre back is certainly a need as Rob Kiernan, Danny Wilson and the aforementioned Hill need competition at the back, whilst Rangers needed to bring in a new striker even before last season's top goalscorer Martyn Waghorn suffered a hamstring injury against Hamilton last weekend.

Speaking after Rangers' 5-0 win over Peterhead, Warburton was asked by The Scottish Sun about the possibility of a new signing arriving before Saturday's trip to Dundee - and he admitted that he's crossing his fingers with work ongoing over transfers.

"Maybe, fingers crossed," said Warburton. "We’ll see. Work is going on so hopefully we will make some progress. But you saw the strength and depth of the squad, we made six changes and we looked good," he added.
