Everton today confirmed the signing of Swansea City defender Ashley Williams - and pundits have been praising the Toffees for their move.

Manager Ronald Koeman saw centre back John Stones move on to Manchester City earlier this week, and swooped to land a replacement this afternoon by snapping up Williams.

The 31-year-old had been a mainstay of the Swansea side ever since signing from Stockport County back in 2008, and racked up more than 350 appearances for the club.

A dependable leader who became one of the top defenders in the Premier League during his time with Swansea, Williams now heads to Goodison Park to join Koeman's revolution on Merseyside - and it's fair to say that former Premier League stars are impressed with the move.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was one of the most vocal advocates of Williams' move to Everton, as he took to Twitter earlier today in order to rave about the centre back.

Ferdinand claims Everton have made a 'major signing', snapping up a great leader with real experience, and arguably the most consistent defender in the Premier League since Swansea's promotion in 2011.

Welshman Robbie Savage responded by questioning why Arsenal didn't make a move to sign Williams, and stated that he will prove to be a bargain for Everton.

Finally, Ian Wright simply passed on his congratulations to Everton and new boss Koeman over the signing of Williams, with most pundits clearly impressed that the Toffees have pulled off this deal.

Do you think Williams will be a good signing for Everton?
