The negotiations to sign the Marseille winger, and see Clinton N'Jie depart Spurs, broke down yesterday.

Last night it emerged that Tottenham Hotspur’s deal to sign Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, and see Clinton N’Jie go in the other direction, had collapsed after several weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.

Le Phoceen said both clubs had become weary with the length of the negotiations and that any deal now seemed impossible.

Now it is being reported just what the figures were regarding this transfer debacle.

Le Phoceen are reporting, as relayed by Maxi Foot, that Tottenham’s original offer was to buy N’Koudou for a fee in the region of €13 million (£11.1 million).

Marseille also wanted N’Jie and a loan deal was agreed with a future buying option of €7 million (£6 million).

However, as the deal dragged on, N’Koudou did not train with Marseille. The report claims that Levy, concerned over his match fitness and considering N’Jie was heading the other way, sought to change the deal.

The claim is that by the time the plug was pulled on negotiations Tottenham’s offer stood at just €5 million (£4.3 million) - a decrease of £6.8m whilst N’Jie’s buying option had been raised to €13 million (£11.1 million).

With that in mind, Marseille decided to end negotiations – not Spurs.

It is this sort of transfer negotiating that can frustrate Spurs fans, and seemingly now former head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, but it would appear Levy was trying to get a deal he felt was fair.

Spurs will now need to look elsewhere in their hunt for a new wide option.
