Dinamo Zagreb's Marko Rog and Bayern Munich's Sebastian Rode in action
According to the Daily Star, Southampton have failed with a £6.8m move to sign Dinamo Zagreb's young midfielder Marko Rog.
The Saints have snappd up the likes of Alex McCarthy, Jeremy Pied, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Nathan Redmond so far this summer, but manager Claude Puel may yet want more new arrivals before this month's transfer deadline.

Given that the French boss testing a midfield diamond during pre-season friendlies, Southampton may be relying heavily on central midfielders, but players who can play out wide as well would be preferable to give Puel tactical flexibility.
With that in mind, Puel appears to have found a player who fits the bill in Dinamo Zagreb's Marko Rog – but the Daily Star report that Southampton have failed with a bid for the Croatian starlet.

Rog, 21, only joined Dinamo from RNK Split last summer, but his impressive displays for the Croatian giants have put him in the spotlight, and he even made it into Croatia's Euro 2016 squad earlier this summer.
Capable of playing as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or even out wide, Rog is a skillful player with huge potential, making him ideal for Southampton.

Southampton are believed to have offered £6.8m to sign Rog this summer, but Dinamo have rejected that offer, and want almost double the bid as they have slapped a £12.8m asking price on Rog's head.
With Villarreal and Napoli also believed to be keen, Southampton may have to move quickly with an improved bid if they are to sign Rog before this month's transfer deadline.
