The Gunners are looking to tie the players down to fresh deals.
Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are set to delay signing new contracts with the club even further, with The Times reporting they will not be signing any new deals until the transfer window shuts.
The club entered into negotiations with the players last September in the hope of ensuring both stars would get long-term deals but they say no real progress has been made between the parties.
With both players entering the final two years of their current contracts, it is said to have increased their bargaining power.
It is a little concerning that talks have dragged on for so long as they are two of Arsenal's best and most important players and the timing is curious. Given that talks are said to resume only after the transfer window is closed suggests that they want to see how the squad has shaped up and whether they feel they have a high enough calibre of teammates or not.
The Times reported back in May that Ozil would not enter contract discussions until after the European Championships, so this is not the first time that talks have been put on hold by the German. It also said back then that he was not agitating for a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
If that is the case for both players, they could be bargaining for significantly improved terms in their contract in order to tie them down to the club for the long term.
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops. Naturally there will be some concern among fans for contract talks being continuously postponed but there is every chance this will come to a satisfactory resolution, although people will not want it dragging on too long for circumstances to change the situation.
