The former forward would like to see them sign a direct player.

Quoted by FourFourTwo, Emile Heskey has said that Liverpool still need to sign a direct player similar to what Daniel Sturridge offers.

The Reds have been very busy this summer, bringing in no fewer than seven new signings to Anfield so far.

Their attacking ranks have been significantly improved, with Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum arriving in big money moves from Southampton and Newcastle United respectively.

Reds fans are largely pleased with the work they have done and the options they have ahead of the new season.

But Heskey believes that there is still room in the squad for them to bring in a direct player in the mould of a Luis Suarez.

“I think Liverpool have enough options, but there is always room for more,” FourFourTwo quotes him saying.

“Especially someone who’s direct, who knows how to run with the ball, who creates stuff on his own. A bit similar to what [Daniel] Sturridge is.”

It now remains to be seen whether Liverpool do look to target that type of player before the end of the transfer window.

They have already spent big on their summer signings so far and it is easy to imagine that the coffers are empty at this point in time.

Should Christian Benteke complete a big money move to Crystal Palace though, perhaps they could target further additions to their squad as Heskey suggests.
