Paul Pogba completed his return to Manchester United from Juventus on Tuesday for a reported world record fee of £89 million.

Paul Pogba was one of the most influential youth players at Manchester United, with many in the academy ranks looking up to him.

His former youth team coach Paul McGuinness helped Pogba nurture the talent he possess today after the Frenchman arrived from Le Havre in 2009.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, McGuinness believes Pogba can become the world beater many expect him to evolve into.

“He's on the verge of being a world star. He's not a Ronaldo or a Messi yet but he's the player with the biggest potential in world football at the moment,” McGuinness, who is no longer at United after an overhaul of their academy, told the Manchester Evening News.

“Paul is capable of some fantastic and exciting things and it is all there for him.

“He's dedicated, he's committed and a good learner and you add all the natural attributes he has and you have a very special player with a special future ahead of him.”

McGuinness continued, revealing exactly why he was so impressed by Pogba and what made him stand apart.

“It was all about skills and all the flicks and drag backs you see him doing now he was doing then and between him and Ravel Morrison it was like a competition as to who could do something more skilfully outrageous,” he said talking about a game he used to set up for all age groups.

“The younger kids watched that as well and tried to copy them and Paul was always encouraging them with a pat on the head here and a word there.”

Manchester United Youth Team Manager Paul McGuinness

If there is one coach who can come close to knowing Pogba inside out, it is McGuinness. The 50-year-old coached him from the early age of 16 and led one of the best Youth Cup sides in the last decade to glory with Pogba a huge part of the triumph.

Yet everyone knows about his sublime ability. His notably unique style is capable of changing a game with a breathtaking moment of sheer brilliance.

The 23-year-old now has to live up to the hype that McGuinness has issued, like many others. But with an array of youthful talent present at Old Trafford, Pogba will not be the only one helping United conjure something special in the next few seasons.
