The Swansea City defender is expected to complete a move to Goodison Park imminently
The Blues are thought to be close to completing a move for the Swansea City captain, with Wales Online reporting that he has travelled to Merseyside after agreeing a four-year deal.
The Wales star will arrive at Goodison Park as a direct replacement for Stones, who completed a protracted transfer to Manchester City on Tuesday.
And when questioned about Williams by an Everton fan on Twitter, Collymore claimed he would represent an improvement on the departed star.
If you can get Williams then in the short term that’s an upgrade on Stones! https://t.co/eRyyYjVXT0— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) August 9, 2016
It now remains to be seen if Williams is the only central defender to arrive on Merseyside this summer.
That area of the team needed serious improvement even when Stones was at the club, with it struggling in the last two seasons under Roberto Martinez.
Williams represents a smart buy to try to fix that, having shone in the Premier League with the Swans and at Euro 2016 this summer, with his committed no nonsense approach.
However, whether Ronald Koeman believes he is enough to solve the issue is debatable, with many feeling more is needed.
