Rangers are in talks to sign former Marseille and Charlton defender Rod Fanni, according to Le10 Sport.

The 34-year old spent the second half of last season on loan at League One outfit Charlton Atheltic, after failing to settle at Qatari side Al-Arabi SC following his move there last summer.

The powerful right-back had previously spent his career in France, playing for Martigues, Lens, Nice and Rennes before making his name at Marseille.

He spent four years at the Stade Velodrome, making 127 appearances for the club, and has five French caps to his name.

Mark Warburton has spoken of his desire to add to his squad before the close of the window and Fanni could be just the type of experienced figure to bolster his backline.

The Frenchman is predominantly a right-back but is versatile and can slot in across the defence and in a holding midfield role.

Le10 Sport suggest the Gers will have a fight on their hands for his signature however, with Marseille also in the hunt for their former star.

The next few weeks are set to be a busy period at Ibrox, with Warburton determined to add the final touches to his squad with a view to halting Celtic’s title charge.
