The defender agreed a move to Anfield earlier this year with his deal at Schalke coming to an end.
His move from the German side brought about an end to 16-year association with the club he had played for as man and boy.
It would be easy to imagine that the decision was a hard one to make, but he says that the chance to work with Klopp, who he came up against in the Bundesliga on numerous occasions, was an easy one.
“Jurgen Klopp is a great coach,” he told the club’s official website.
“It was a very easy decision to play for him at Liverpool. It was a very easy decision to play for him too because he can make every player better.”
It now remains to be seen if Matip is a regular in the Liverpool first-team this season.
The centre of defence has long been a problem area for them, with both Klopp and Brendan Rodgers failing to resolve the issue in recent years.
The German boss has focused on doing that this summer though and now has several options available to him, meaning Matip may face a fight to get in.
