Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Spurs players endured a double training session today as Mauricio Pochettino aims to get his squad in shape for Saturday’s Premier League opener.
The Lilywhites travel to Goodison Park to face Ronald Koeman’s Toffees and they will need to be on top form if they are to grab all three points at the notoriously tricky venue.
Pochettino has two main selection headaches for the encounter and it will be interesting to see how the Argentine opts to set his team up.
Mousa Dembele still has four games left to serve of a six-game ban picked up at the end of last season and the issue of who partners Eric Dier in the heart of midfield is still up for debate.
Tottenham's Harry Winks
Ryan Mason hasn’t impressed for quite some time yet seems to have the backing of his manager, while Harry Winks enjoyed an excellent pre-season but may still represent a risk if he is thrown in at the deep end.
Summer signing Victor Wanyama could feature alongside Dier but there is the danger that they are too similar and so wouldn’t best suit Pochettino’s precise system.
Elsewhere, deciding who partners Toby Alderweireld in central defence will be another key decision for the Spurs boss.
Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker celebrate
Neither Jan Vertonghen nor Kevin Wimmer have seen a single minute of action in pre-season but both are fit – judging by today’s training pics – and one of the two will surely start ahead of promising youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Spurs now seemingly boast a fully fit squad and will head to Goodison confident of picking up three points against an unsettled Everton side.
