Leeds United did not get off to the best of starts at the weekend, losing 3-0 to QPR on the opening day of the 2016/17 Championship season.

The Whites are keen to put that defeat behind them, and while the margin of the loss was an embarrassing way to kick off the campaign without managing a shot on target, improvement is surely due for their next fixture.

Former Leeds defender Vinnie Jones commented on Twitter on Monday, urging Leeds fans not to write off the team, sagely pointing out that when they were promoted from the old division two in 89/90 and he was at the club, they also lost their opener by three goals.

Jones did not play in that fixture due to injury but came back to play a vital role for the club as they won promotion.

It would take a real optimist to suggest Leeds will come back and do the same again this season, but it is right that fans should not be too despondent with 45 games remaining and the transfer window still open.

Jones, now a famous Hollywood actor, believes there will be a strong reaction next weekend when Leeds host Birmingham Coity, hopefully in a positive way as players step up in front of their fans.

Before that fixture, Leeds face League One side Fleetwood Town in midweek in the Capital One Cup, with their opponents recently having appointed former boss Uwe Rosler.
