Sheffield Wednesday splashed around £3 million to secure the services of Fernando Forestieri from Watford at the start of last season and the transfer had been seen by many as a bit of a risk for the Owls.

Although no one doubted Forestieri’s qualities, the Italian attacker was considered a bit inconsistent and fans were unsure as to whether the former Udinese man would succeed at Hillsborough.

As it turned out, Forestieri arguably proved to be one of the signings of the season and his 15 goals and seven assists went a long way in helping the Owls reach the Championship play-off final.

Forestieri was ultimately unable to guide Wednesday to promotion into the Premier League after they suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of Hull City at Wembley, but many now believe the Owls stand a good chance of mounting another promotion charge this season, with the Italian leading the way.

Wednesday kicked off their Championship campaign with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday and the 26-year-old was unsurprisingly the star of the show once again, grabbing the winner late into the game.

Following the game, Faurlín took to social media website Twitter to wax lyrical about Forestieri and hinted that the attacker could be of interest to Premier League teams.

He posted,

Wednesday fans were not left particularly impressed with Faurlín’s comments though and insisted that their star man would be staying put at the club for the foreseeable future.
