Former Spurs defender Vedran Corluka could be the man Valencia look to to strengthen their defence this summer, with Arsenal continuing to be linked to star centre back Shkodran Mustafi.

Local Valencia publication superdeporte.es have suggested the Croatia star, who has been playing for Lokomotiv Moscow since leaving Tottenham in 2012. The 30-year-old has regularly proven himself as one of the top defenders in Russia after being signed by fellow Croatian Slaven Bilic.

Corluka featured as a right back during a four year spell in North London, but has proven himself as a central defender since, captaining Lokomotiv and gaining 90 caps for his country.

Valencia will have to battle Fiorentina for Corluka's signature according to the report, but with Tottenham's great rivals Arsenal continuing to circle the Mestalla for Germany international Mustafi, according to the Sun, the La Liga giants may push especially hard if they decide on the Croatian.

The Gunners are in dire straights in central defence, with Gabriel joining both Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny on the sidelines with an injury late in Sunday's win over Manchester City in Gothenburg.

With young defenders Rob Holding and Calum Chambers the only options Arsene Wenger has, he is likely to double his interest in Mustafi, in turn driving Valencia's interest.

The report does suggest the Spanish outfit are also keeping track of their former defender Raul Albiol, though Napoli would be reluctant to sell another of their stars after Juventus spent big to sign Gonzalo Higuain.
