Mainz president Harald Strutz has told the Liverpool Echo that moving to Liverpool was the best decision Jurgen Klopp ever made.

The German boss spent the vast majority of his career with Mainz, racking up 19 years as a player and a manger at the club.

He turned them into a football force during his time in charge, before going on to do the same thing at Borussia Dortmund.

He is now in charge at Liverpool after taking charge last October, where he has been a huge success, leading them to both the Capital One Cup and Europa League final last season.

They are expected to continue their rise under his leadership in future, and Strutz says that moving to Anfield was the best decision Klopp ever made.

“For me it was beautiful that he decided to go to Liverpool,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I’m of the opinion that it’s the best club for him, for his mentality, for the kind of human being that he is and they way he likes to play football. It’s the best decision he ever made.”

It now remains to be seen if Klopp can continue his track record of success with Liverpool in future.

They were certainly impressive last season, and have been busy in the summer transfer window to try and ensure they can return to the top four next season.

They face a fight to do so given the fierce competition in the Premier League now, but given his track record, it would be foolish to write Liverpool off.
