The position is something of a problem area for the Reds at present.
The Reds have been busy strengthening this summer, bringing in no fewer than seven new signings to give manager Jurgen Klopp options across the park.
So far they have failed to add another left-back though, with a move for Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell failing earlier this summer.
The position is something of a problem area at present with Alberto Moreno their only option and James Milner having filled in there in pre-season.
In fact there are doubts about Moreno as first choice given how he struggled again last season, but Barnes insists they are not in desperate need of a new signing.
“For me, regardless of whether we need a left back or not, we could be stronger in that position,” he told talkSPORT.
“Moreno will start at left back. Are we desperate? I wouldn’t say we are. Yes we are looking to strengthen but I wouldn’t say we were desperate. “
It now remains to be seen whether Liverpool do make a move for another left-back before the end of the transfer window.
There is no denying they are short in the area, especially after selling Kevin Stewart to Bournemouth.
With this summer proving to be one of inflated prices though, perhaps Klopp will target a short term back up option rather than a long term solution.
